USD 223 school board meeting bits

Topics of interest from the USD 223 Barnes-Hanover-Linn school board meeting on Wednesday evening, Jan. 16:
• On a 4-3 vote, the board denied a request by Linn-Palmer area patrons to use the new gym for recreational pick-up basketball games on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. (See related blog post.)
• Richard Turner resigned as Linn High School head football coach and summer conditioning program sponsor.
• The board discussed a list of facility recommendations, including air conditioning, science lab renovation and football field lighting at Linn; and air conditioning, football field lighting, old locker room renovation and ADA accessibility at Hanover among other items.
• Eight new students have enrolled at Linn since Christmas break and two new students have enrolled at Hanover.
• The board discussed whether or not they would want to move forward with developing a plan for a potential at-risk preschool in Greenleaf for the district.
